100 Acre School Stories

Woodward Academy – GA

Sponsors: Marie Boatright, Mike Murphy
181.4 Acres

Woodward has been helping Earth Foundation rescue our earth’s rainforests for 15 years. Conservation and sustainability issues are an important part of our school’s mission because it is important for our students to become stewards of the environment for future generations. Our school has donated money to help the Georgia Sea Turtle Center help rehabilitate injured sea turtles stranded on our coast. An important campaign that has become a yearly tradition at Woodward is Earth Foundation’s Protect an Acre project. It is a school-wide event where teachers, staff, administration and students in every grade level purchase t-shirts to help this important cause. The success of the campaign is due to our competitive spirit between grade levels and pride in our school achieving 100% participation. Incentives like “out of uniform day” where participants are allowed to come to school in their t-shirts on Earth Day have been a great way to show our solidarity and celebrate our success as the top selling school! There is a special program to mark this occasion every year. We look forward to continue participating in the Earth Foundation campaign and appreciate their work in helping educate students and enable them to help protect the world’s rainforest.

Dr. Americo Paredes Elementary – TX

135.7 Acres

Dr. Americo Paredes Elementary School worked as a team last year to meet our school wide goal of saving over 100 acres! Faculty and staff pulled together by choosing a class shirt for their students to wear during field days and class trips. Our students fit right in at the zoo with their Rainforest Animal T-Shirts. The rainforest curriculum was presented school-wide in the library to students from Pre-K through 5th grades with special emphasis on Madagascar and some classes put together rainforest presentations for their parents. "Our Student council rewarded top selling classes with a Save the Rainforest party in the library with students winning prizes and enjoying a movie, popcorn, candy, and drink." Working with Earth Foundation to help preserve the rainforest has become an annual event at our school since its opening 8 years ago and we look forward to continuing the tradition and to beating our record each year!

Stoney Point Elementary – NC

127.3 Acres

Stoney Point Elementary was excited to reach its goal of saving 100 acres this year, especially in light of the difficult economic times. Our most effective motivational tool was the creation of the One Acre Club to recognize families who sold over 10 t-shirts and saved one acre. Each time a family reached this goal, a rain forest animal was placed on the One Acre Club tree in their honor. The children in those families were later recognized at a pizza and movie party. Amazingly, over 60 animals were placed on the tree and more than 85 students were recognized at the party!

Three Rivers School – IL

108.3 Acres

Three Rivers students are making choices today to make a greener tomorrow. Science students at Three Rivers School not only learned valuable lessons about the environment, but they saved over a hundred acres of rainforest in Madagascar!! The students assisted in transforming their classroom into a rainforest with butterflies, vines, monkeys and papier-mâché trees. The students learned about the many distinct eco systems in Madagascar. Upon completion of the unit of study each science class set a goal as to how many acres of the rainforest they were going to save. New incentives were given each week to encourage and assist students in reaching their personal goals.

The students who saved the most acres were treated to a limo lunch. Students who reached their personal goals had the unique opportunity of tossing a pie at a couple of our environmentalist teachers. Classroom charts were updated daily to monitor the schools progress as a whole. This special project brought each science class together working as a team. As we approached the one hundred acre mark, the entire sixth grade became one body focused on one goal, a greener Earth. It is refreshing to know that the small community of Channahon, IL made a global difference!

Navigator School - MI
Sponsor: Holly Calderwood
100 Acres

Navigator School is so proud to have saved 100 acres in Madagascar. These students proved how important it is to set goals. For the fifth year in a row they are one of the top 5 schools in the US!! They attribute their success to the fact that once the students learned about Madagascar and all the amazing animals there, they rallied together to save their habitats.

All Navigator students were introduced to the program with a school-wide rainforest assembly. Then the students made school television commercials to educate others about their desire to make a difference in the world. Different incentives were offered to students in the form of stuffed animals and weekly Navigator Rainforest Café lunches complete with rainforest animal sounds and critters hanging from the trees! They also completed for ice cream socials and class pizza parties. Navigator School can't wait to further their philanthropic efforts and are eager to get started on the 2009-2010 Amazon campaign

We provide free curriculum and videos to teach your students about the Brazilian Amazon and its inhabitants and how to save their home.

Your students and their families save acres of the Amazon rainforest with the purchase of our environmental t-shirts, bags, hats and boxer shorts. Every 10 items sold protects an acre in the name of your school!
