9. Snow Leopard — Do you know who goes to work with mom? Snow leopards as young as three months old escort their mothers on hunts! Snow leopards have big, fur-covered feet that work like snowshoes and they prefer altitudes between 9,800 and 17,000 feet where there’s plenty of snow to use them. They range from Afghanistan to Kazakstan and Russia in the north to India and China in the east. China contains 60% of the habitat and likewise most of the snow leopards. Due to their elusive nature, much is unknown about the snow leopard including their population numbers. Estimates are between 3,500 and 7,000 and they are considered highly endangered. In addition to hunting and deforestation threats, snow leopards are also losing habitat to global warming.
